International researchers in Bonn

Scientists from all over the world conduct research and teach at the University of Bonn. We are proud of this internationality, which is an outstanding enrichment for Bonn's science and for university life. Some of our international researchers stay forever - others move abroad to pursue their academic careers.

It is of great importance to us to stay in contact with these international research personalities and to involve them in the education of our young scientists. The core of our work for and with international research alumni are therefore the "Reinvitation Grants", with which we want to financially support the return to the University of Bonn for a short stay. Reinvitation Grants

Reinvitation Grants enable research alumni of the University of Bonn to return to the University of Bonn for a short research stay in order to maintain scientific relations, build networks and plan research projects. A special emphasis is placed on the involvement of returning research alumni in the promotion of young scientists in Bonn.

The announcement and awarding of reinvitation grants is carried out twice a year by a scientific selection committee.

Within the framework of the sponsorship, travel and accommodation expenses of the research alumni are covered. The funding consists of a travel allowance (depending on the country of origin) plus a stay allowance of 96,- EUR per day (for a maximum duration of 5 days). A condition for the funding is that the research alumni are involved in activities for the promotion of young scientists at the University of Bonn (e.g. in the context of the qualification program of graduate schools, a block seminar for doctoral students, etc.).

Research Alumni Meeting in Tokyo 2017

On 07 and 08 October 2017, the University of Bonn hosted the first Research Alumni Meeting in Tokyo.

Under the guiding theme "Internationalization of Doctoral Education", members of the University of Bonn management discussed current topics of university development with research alumni. At the same time, there was time to exchange memories of Bonn, as well as to establish new contacts and collaborations for the future.

Invited were international guest researchers who have conducted research in Bonn and are now continuing their academic careers in Japan.
